Stephen Hawking, one of the world’s most renowned scientists who was known for his contributions to the world of theoretical physics, passed away on March 14th 2018 at the age of 76. It was remarkable that he lived so long. At the age of 22, Professor Hawking was given only a few years to live after being diagnosed with a rare form of motor neurone disease. The illness left him completely disabled in a wheelchair and unable to speak except through a computer synthesizer.

His condition inevitably made him dependent on others. He often paid tribute to his wife, who had looked after him for more than 20 years, and friends and relatives were shocked when he left her for one of his nurses, Elaine Mason, whom he married in 1995. The couple later divorced in 2006.

Sadly, Hawking was also a strong advocate for atheism. He once stated,

When people ask me if a god created the universe, I tell them that the question itself makes no sense. We are each free to believe what we want, and it’s my view that the simplest explanation is; there is no god. No one created our universe, and no one directs our fate. This leads me to a profound realization; There is probably no heaven, and no afterlife either.

Stephen Hawking denied God. But here’s what the bible has to say about those who believe such things: “Professing themselves to be wise, they become fools.” (Romans 1:22)

Further stated Psalm 14:1 says this: “The fool hath said in his heart, “There is no God.”

In Romans 1:19 it is revealed, “Because that which may be known of GOD is manifest in them; for GOD hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.”

So how could such an intelligent man be so foolish to be an atheist. Because he was deluded. He knew from a scientific vantage point that something cannot be created from nothing. He knew that intelligent design necessitates an intelligent designer. He knew that every creation needs a creator.

Stephen Hawking had no excuse for his rejection and rebellion toward his creator. While we can appreciate his accomplishments for mankind, as Christians, we must mourn for him and those like him who reject the idea of retaining God in their knowledge and ultimately die in that state. History will remember Stephen Hawking as an intelligent scientist but eternity will reveal him to be an incessant fool. Based upon bible truth, I can assure you that Stephen Hawking is no longer an atheist. Regrettably it’s too late for him.
