THE VIRGIN BIRTH OF CHRIST

Isa 7:14

Morning Meditation

Isaiah 7:14, "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."

The virgin birth was a sign to the nation of Israel. Many are denying the virgin birth on the grounds that the word for virgin can mean a young girl. But they willfully ignore the fact that this child born to this young girl was to be a sign. A girl having a baby in the normal way would not have been a sign.

Neither would you name a child born the natural way Immanuel. The name Immanuel means God with us. This is brought out in Matthew 1:23, "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."

It happened this way: Matthew 1:18-21, "Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Why is the virgin birth so necessary? First of all because the Bible definitely says it. Second because the salvation that Jesus brings demands it. One sinner cannot atone for the sins of another.

The natural man by natural birth is a sinner. The sin nature of Adam is passed on to his descendants by birth. This is brought out in Romans 5:12, "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" The one man this verse is talking about is Adam. His descendants are described in the words, “. . .and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.”

Jesus had to be born naturally to be the sinners substitute. He had to be conceived miraculously to be born without sin. The man who denies the virgin birth is lost I don’t care how many degrees he has. A person may deny some of the Bible and still be saved; but he cannot deny the virgin birth and still be saved.

In fact one cannot deny all the doctrines of Christ and still be saved. We have a sinless Christ who offered himself with out spot as our substitute on the cross. If he committed one sin he is not qualified to be the Saviour. Hallelujah what a Saviour!!!!!!!!!!!
