THE MAN OF FALSE PEACE TO COME SOON

Morning Meditation 9/17/2012

"And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate."

This verse is a prophecy that explains what will happen in the last days for Israel. Israel is and has been in trouble ever since she became a nation in 1948. This fight for her life began in the Old Testament. The Arabs and the Jews have permanent enmity toward one another.

There is a man, probably alive today, that will find a temporary solution to the terrorism in the Middle East. Daniel tells us of this man.

Daniel 8:23-25, "And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practice, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand."

This man who will destroy through the use of a promised peace is spoken of again in our text. Daniel 9:27, "And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate."

The covenant will be for seven years. It will be with "many" not all. This covenant will be a seven year covenant that will be broken after three and one-half years. Then the covenant maker will go into the rebuilt temple and setup his throne and demand worship. This will leave the Jews helpless and many will be killed during this period of time. Jesus quotes Daniel 9:27 in Matthew 24:15-16, "When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand) Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains." In other words, "Run for your life!"

Just before the seven years and probably about the time the Antichrist makes a covenant with the Jews, believers will be raptured out. This is described in 1Thess. 4:13-18. When the covenant is broken by the Antichrist in the middle of the week (after three and one-half years), the Jews will flee into the wilderness and will be hidden by the Lord until Jesus comes in Revelation chapter 19. At that time Antichrist will be destroyed by the brightness of His coming (2 Thess. 2:6-10). The Beast and the False prophet will be cast into the lake of fire and Satan will be put in the bottomless pit until the end of the Millennium when he will be loosed for a little season. Then he will lead another rebellion against Christ and God will fight this battle, destroy Satan and his armies, and put him in the lake of fire from which he will never return.

The truth of the rapture which will take the believers out of this world just as Enoch was taken before the flood, is to be a comfort to us today. 1 Thessalonians 4:18, "Wherefore comfort one another with these words."

May the Lord bless these words to our hearts. And may we find comfort in the fact that Jesus is coming for us and we will be taken out in the rapture and will not have to go through this time of great tribulation.
