GOD SAYS MAKE ME A SANCTUARY

Exo 25:8

Morning Meditation 12/24/2012

Exodus 25:8, "And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them."

THE DIVINE REQUEST

What condescension! Imagine God wanting to dwell among His people. He says, “Let them make me a sanctuary…” This sanctuary was to be made by human hands.

Those were chosen who had been redeemed from bondage and separated to Himself. God only dwells with a separated people. Notice that this request originated with God Himself.

This is true of new testament Christians; 2 Corinthians 6:14-16, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people."

THE PATTERN

Exodus 25:40, "And look that thou make them after their pattern, which was shewed thee in the mount." God gave them a strict blue print to follow. The earthly tabernacle was to be made after the pattern of the one in the heavens.

Hebrews 8:5, "Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount."

It was because these things had a spiritual meaning that they were to be made according to the heavenly pattern. When God told Noah to build an ark He gave him a blue print to go by. Both the ark and the tabernacle are a type of Christ.

THE MATERIALS

Exodus 12:36, "And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians." The Lord gave the Jews the materials for the tabernacle before they left Egypt.

When it came time to build the tabernacle the Bible says that “They gave willingly.” In fact Moses had to restrain them from giving: Exodus 36:6, "And Moses gave commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, Let neither man nor woman make any more work for the offering of the sanctuary. So the people were restrained from bringing."

THE WORKMEN

Exodus 31:1-5, "And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship."

God always chooses the human instruments to do His work. He puts His Spirit within them and this qualifies them to fulfill the calling that He has called them to do.

May the Lord bless these words to our hearts.

In Christ
