A SEARCH FOR ONE THING

Psa 27:4

Morning Meditation 2/3/2013

Psalms 27:4, "One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple."

WHAT THIS ONE THING WAS

It was not any earthly object. It was fellowship with God.

  1. He sought this because he was reconciled to God. An unreconciled man does not seek the Lord. The Lord seeks him. Luke 19:10, "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Reconciliation takes down the wall that separates man from God. Man can come into the presence of God as a saved sinner: Hebrews 10:19-22, "Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water."
  2. He sought this because he loved the company of God. There is a thirst for God in every believer. Psa 42:2 says, “My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?”
  3. He sought the Lord because there is a resemblance of God in a born again believer. 2 Peter 1:4, "Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust."

WHY HE SOUGHT THIS

He did this for two reasons.

  1. To see His beauty. He is altogether lovely. There is great beauty in His person. It is a beauty indescribable to us now.
  2. To inquire in His temple. He was an anxious inquirer, seeking the truth of God from God’s own lips. Christ is the great Teacher sent from the Father. No man taught like Jesus. The disciples were fascinated by His teaching.

HOW HE SOUGHT THIS ONE THING

  1. He sought it earnestly. All his desire centered in this one thing. He had a single eye. John 12:20-21, "And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast: The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus."
  2. He sought it determinately. He would not cease until he found Him.
  3. He sought it successfully. This we may be assured of because he sought it from the Lord.

May the Lord bless these words to our hearts.

In Christ
