THE GLORY OF JESUS

2 Pet. 3:18

Morning Meditation 2/27/2013

"But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen."

What does the word glory mean? Some of the definitions are as follows:

1. Splendor, brightness, majesty of God; Gen 45:13; Isa 4:5; Ac 22:11; 2Co 3:7; of Jehovah Isa 59:19; 60:1; 2 Thess. 1:9.

2. The glorious moral attributes, the infinite perfections of God; Isa 40:5; Ac 7:2; Ro 1:23; 9:23; Eph 1:12; Jesus is the "brightness of the Father's glory" Heb 1:3 John 1:14; 2:11.

1. The bliss of heaven Ro 2:7,10; 5:2; 8:18; Heb 2:10; 1Pe 5:1,10.

2. The phrase "Give glory to God," means, "Confess that you are an imposter.

3. I will add my definition to this Greek word: "That in any thing that calls forth praise."

Now let's look at how this is used in the New Testament.

1. The glory of His holiness is seen in His life; Hebrews 7:26, "For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;"

2. The glory of His grace is seen in His dealings with sinners; Luke 7:47, "Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little."

3. The glory of His love is seen in His cross; Galatians 6:14, "But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world."

4. The glory of His compassion is seen in His weeping over Jerusalem; Luke 19:41-42, "And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes."

5. The glory of His power is seen in His miracles.

C2B7 He raised the dead; John 11:25-44; Luke 7:11-17.

C2B7 He healed the sick; Matt. 4:24.

C2B7 He opened the eyes of the blind; Matt. 9:27-30.

C2B7 He caused the deaf to hear; Mark 7:31-37.

C2B7 He fed 4,000 with seven barley loaves and a few small fishes; Mark 7:31-37.

C2B7 He stilled the waves of the sea and commanded that the storm to cease; Mark 4:39 says "And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm."

Many more things could be mentioned. He glorified His Father; John 17:1, "These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:"

We give glory to Jesus through His church; Ephesians 3:21, "Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen."

May the Lord bless these words to our hearts.

In Christ
